What is EMDR Therapy?
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing.
EMDR therapy is a cost-effective, non-invasive, evidence-based method of psychotherapy that assists individuals in recovering from the signs of mental "stuckness" and turmoil brought on by traumatic events in past life experiences. With the use of EMDR techniques, our mind has an instinctive desire towards healing and mental health, just like how your body recovers after a physical injury. Our brains are wired to heal naturally if we give it the space and tools to do so. Instead of our memories being stuck we can help move them towards new understanding and acceptance, not changing the past, but learning and growing from it.
Repeated studies suggest that by employing EMDR treatment people can experience the benefits of psychotherapy and relief from symptoms that once took years to accomplish.EMDR therapy is an eight-phase treatment. It starts with collecting your history, developing healthy coping and resourcing strategies so you aren't re-traumatized when we lean in to the memories, and finally the use of bilateral stimulation with repeated eye movements or tapping to reprocess memories. This is alternating, repeated movement has been studied and proven to help the brain reprocess traumatic memories, reducing their emotional intensity and allowing the person to develop more adaptive coping mechanisms. At the end you will experience a shift, evident in your mood, sleep and how you take on your life with new meaning.
