Aislinn Mayes
LCMHC, NCC

Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor

National Certified Counselor

Background Information & Experience

Welcome to my page! I am so excited you are here. My name is Aislinn (different, I know!) and I have been a mental health therapist for 3 years. Previously, I worked as a school counselor at Pine Lake in Mooresville for grades K-5 while also working part time at a group practice in the evenings. I specialize in working with school aged children & teens while also helping young adults navigate going back to college, moving to a new place or just trying to figure out how to "adult".

I am a native to Mooresville and have lived in the area my entire life. I went to NC State for my undergrad in Psychology and then completed my masters at UNCC. I am interested in so many topics and things, that I bet we can find something to bond over! I am not afraid to answer questions about my time as a therapist or journey to getting here, so feel free to ask away!

Here's the thing...we are all human. What you've been through is unique to your life and no one can take that away. It's important to know that your time in therapy is tailored to suit you and only you. Please come into therapy with an open mind and not searching for a one size fits all cure that I can give to eliminate all your worries. Life is constantly evolving and we must work together to develop skills for you to overcome all that life throws your way.

I have worked with people of all ages and backgrounds. As you know, the world is a busy place. It can be isolating and exhausting with all the noise. I want to provide that listening ear for you to finally feel understood and heard. I went into mental health so I could provide a safe space for you to be truly and authentically yourself...the good, the not so good and the work in progress!

The most rewarding thing about being a counselor is seeing a person walk away lighter, more free, and in control of their life. I am committed to checking in with you as we go to ensure you're on track towards change. And it's totally normal if we hit a few stumbling blocks along the way.

Our Sessions Are Focused On You

Sessions will provide you with the space to focus on yourself without feeling selfish. You will feel heard and valued making it easier to rediscover your strengths and start to heal. By feeling safe and comfortable, you’ll be able to gain clarity and explore your thoughts, feelings, and goals.

As A Therapist, I Embrace The Following Beliefs...

  • I believe that there is no shame in asking for help

  • I believe that emotions heal when they are witnessed and validated

  • I believe that therapy works when both of us are committed to the process and work that goes into it

  • I believe that you can do hard things

  • I believe that sometimes a small step in the right direction ends up being the biggest reward in the end

Even if you just come to one session, you are engaging in the commitment to change and for that you are so much stronger than you think.

Fun Facts:

  • I backpacked in Europe, island hopped in Greece, went cross country around the USA, and have been on three mission trips to Central America. You could say travel is important to me!

  • I've been sky-diving and it was amazing (after getting over the initial fear!)

  • I love to craft and make shirts, gifts and home decor. Quarantine helped me discover this passion.

  • I have a corgi named Beau who would love to visit the office. You may see him on virtual sessions.
